Following the brief hiatus, one of the things we did here at The Autism Hub, was changed the latest posts backend to a Google API (there are more details on the about page). This has some excellent benefits, but also an important point to be aware of.

Since the Google API access feed content directly from Google servers, updates are likely to be much faster than in the past. In the past, The Autism Hub ran a scheduled task that updated the content – it now displays bloggers’ RSS feeds content that is updated by Google.

This can be a good thing, as it means that The Autism Hub will display blog content very quickly after it’s published (often within minutes). This can also be a point for caution. Updates happen very quickly, and careful consideration prior to publishing posts is important.

Also, The Hub’s own RSS feed is now a feed for Hub news and updates – it does not currently feed updates of the “Latest Posts” page. The decision to do this was not taken lightly, and it was considered important to keep both bloggers and visitors informed of the Hub changes taking place with an accessible public feed.

A new “latest posts feed”, and subsequent Twitter updates, are in the works. We hope to provide an update on that in the next couple of weeks.
